Comedy For Peace™ - Laughing Through the Tears™

Laughing Through the Tears^TMwill be a 90-minute documentary about the Comedy for Peace^TM performances and the entire effort to use comedy to promote peace in the Middle East. It will document the journey of these comedians and bring their vision and message to a global audience through film distribution and television broadcast.

The film will tell the larger story of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through this unique lens of comedy, focusing on the microcosm of the central character, Ray Hanania's efforts to pull off his dream, as well as on the unique nature of his marriage.

We will see the comedians as they perform in major shows in Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Bethlehem and the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, and also at small comedy workshops in some of the most important and symbolic locations at the heart of the conflict: the Gaza Strip, Jenin, in a settler community, at an Israeli Defense Forces Border Guard base. The exchanges the comedians have as they go on this adventurous journey for peace and meet voluble taxi drivers, passionate politicians or survivors of violence will add to the larger story.

Filming has commenced with scenes shot in the U.S., the West Bank and Israel (Jenin, Ramallah, East Jerusalem, Tel Aviv). A 24 minute sample reel can be seen which includes scenes with comics Whoopi Goldberg, David Brenner and Omid Djalili. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Harry Shearer are also supporting the project.
